There's a First Time for Everything

Anna recently confessed that she is a West Wing Watcher Addict... well, Hi- my name is Roxy and I'm a Television addict.
I watch way too much tv and at times, I'm slightly ashamed... but it is who I am and I'm doing my best to come to terms with that.
One good thing is that over the last couple seasons, I haven't picked up many new shows which is a good thing because I've got a pretty packed schedule as is! And let me be clear, I have a few guilty pleasures... but for the most part, I'm watching quality TV.
Anyway, on to the purpose of this blog. One of the few new shows that I have picked up is Lipstick Jungle and let me say... AMAZING. The storylines are good, the friendship between the 3 main female characters reminds me of my group of girlfriends, and Andrew McCarthy's character is darn sexy! ... and rumor has it that NBC plans to cancel this show.
I don't know if any Chickbug readers actually watch this show but if you do and you don't want to see it go- send lipstick to NBC to let them know that you want Lipstick Jungle to stay! I've never written a network before let alone tried to actively save a show, but I will now b/c there's always a first time for everything!

Tuesday Trivia: Teddy Bear Edition
My daughter’s Kindergarten class is celebrating National Teddy Bear Day today (although I found some sources that claim the official day to be on November 14th) so I thought the cuddly stuffed animals would be a good trivia topic.
*The stuffed toy we know as the teddy bear was named for Teddy Roosevelt.
*On Sesame Street, Big Bird's beloved teddy bear is named Radar.
*Arctophile is a term for someone who loves teddy bears.
*The first teddy bears were often made of real bear fur.
*This woman in Vinalhaven, Maine makes heirloom teddy bears from "choice reclaimed natural fur" suchas mink, beaver, and even seal. (Trust me folks, this one took some time to find but I couldn't let the week go without a Maine fact)!

reading & shopping
-- Are you reading Testimony by Anita Shreve for the chickbug bookclub? You voted and the official chat will be on Tuesday, December 2nd at 8pm. You have two weeks from today to (start and) finish!
p.s.- has anyone created a little cheat sheet of characters as they read? I was losing track of who was who!
-- I recently found out about The Cheap Chica's Guide to Style blog and I'm in love! Lilliana, who writes the blog, has a ton of amazing ideas and they are all so inexpensive. Definitely put it on your list.
-- Katie B. invited me to Gilt.com yesterday. Ummmm.....I'm obsessed. I already bought myself
a black clutch and I'm waiting for the the Joya candle sale to start tomorrow. As their website says, "Gilt provides access, by invitation only, to Men’s, Women’s and Children’s coveted fashion and luxury brands at prices up to 70% off retail. Each sale lasts 36 hours and features hand selected styles from a single designer." You just need to be invited by a member. Want to join? Email me and I'll invite you!
-- If you haven't stumbled upon Oh How Lovely's shopping blog you are missing out. She features a ton of amazing products from etsy.
-- I'm throwing myself a 30th birthday bash and thanks to the suggestions of Big Apple Ruth, I poured over hundreds of cool invitations I could personalize online and have printed. Looking for personalized invitations, holiday cards, stationary etc? Check out Paperbuzz and Einvite. And another one of my favorites is The Stationary Studio.

West Wing Watchers Anonymous

Hi. My name is Anna, and I'm obsessed with the West Wing.
[Hi, Anna...]
I never watched it while it was on TV, but now I've borrowed the DVDs and am starting from the beginning. Whenever I'm at home, I'm watching it and when I'm not, I'm thinking about when I can get home to watch it.
And it makes me want to work in the White House, even though I know it's not realistic at all.
Anyone else need to join my support group?

puppy cam
Have you heard/seen of these cuties? A live webcam of puppies! You can read all about them here. Just press play and watch. If they aren't moving it is because they are sleeping! But watch long enough and you'll see them move around.
Tip from People.com: Let the video play in the background and listen for when the puppies whimper – that's a signal they may start to play or eat.

Thoughts Running Through My Head
I always have a lot of things running through my head but none that usually can stand alone as being blog-worthy... so I've decided to clump my random thoughts into one blog.
...No Washcloths? I have now been a guest in two separate homes recently where they did not own washcloths. How do you not own washcloths? At first, I thought maybe they owned those poofy things, but nope- nothing. Do they really just put soap to body everyday? I come from a house where washcloths are as essential as towels in the shower process... Am I the weird one for not thinking that soap to body alone can really get you clean?
...What's the Big Deal with Thank You Notes? Don't get me wrong, I get it... well, kinda. But I've never been of the mindset that thank you notes are an ABSOLUTE. I do believe that expressing your thanks and gratitude is an absolute but can't that be done in a phone call or an email. Why do I have to mail something? And are they ALWAYS necessary??? And I definitely don't get someone who feels slighted if they don't receive a thank you card-- is that why you did the good deed in the first place?
... Is this Really How Men Think? I had a conversation with a guy friend recently who confessed to me that the main reason he stayed with his last girlfriend was because she was skinny. In the past, he had mostly dated heavier-set girls and although their were red flags and issues with his most recent girlfriend... he stuck around because she was skinny and he thought that should/would/could trump everything else. Really? I knew men were superficial, but wow- that level of superficiality can really make a guy suffer from an intelligence deficit.
What are some of the random thoughts running through your head today?
